As with any major construction project, it stretched out longer than anticipated and had several glitches. However, with Enna’s help, we worked through all of the concerns. We are very pleased with the remodels and thoroughly enjoy the bathrooms.

Description of Work:

Removed popcorn ceiling from entire house; patched and repaired ceiling and applied a flat finish; painted ceiling and touched up existing paint as needed; and put a cement wheelchair ramp leading to front door.

Client Comments:

The job was started three days after we got an estimate and signed a contract. On the first day, they removed the existing plywood ramp, moved the household furniture out of their way, removed the popcorn ceiling in the entire house, and started patching. After working a full day, they cleaned up, and came back the next day at 8:30 a.m. to complete patching and repairing the ceiling. Then they carefully applied a flat finish ceiling, which is more exacting work than blowing on an “orange peel” finish. They painted the ceiling and applied touch up paint left over from when I painted the house nine years ago. Then they cleaned up and left. On the next work day, the crew arrived early again to put in the cement wheelchair ramp. Mark checked their work and insisted that the crew completely repaint one bedroom.

I have noticed that all of the reviews that are negative come from people who didn’t hire Horizon. Read the review from people who actually had work done if you want a valuable opinion. When we first met Mark Besnos (owner) at our house, he asked a lot of questions, offered suggestions, and was not at all afraid to offer his opinion when he thought we were wrong (this can be off-putting I suppose, except after you work with Mark for a while you will come to appreciate that he really knows what he is doing and you should listen to him!). Of the five bids we received for this work, Mark’s was by far the most detailed and the only one that covered all of the details we discussed. Not the cheapest bid by far, but when I went back and looked at the holes in the other bids I had no doubt they would have change ordered me to death and I would have ended up spending the same or more likely more. The work started promptly and once started stayed pretty much on schedule throughout. Enna always kept us informed when things were going to be done, so there were never any major surprises. There were problems along the way as there always are in remodeling, and this is where Horizon really shines in my opinion – Mark always said “Don’t worry, we will take care of it”, and they always did. Every time.

There are already the well-acknowledged passages associated with life; birth, marriage, divorce, graduation, the new job. I’d like to add one more—remodeling. The decision to embark upon the renovation path, in most cases, involves entering into a relationship with a contractor. Selecting one, in many respects, is only slightly less important than say choosing a spouse or deciding to have children. Remodeling your home can be a journey filled with uncertainty, havoc and frustration as you work toward the beautiful surroundings you envisioned those many months earlier. As the old knight who guarded the room of chalices in a scene from the movie, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, mused, “Choose wisely.” Fortunately, we did when we contracted with Mark of Horizon Construction. You want your contractor to be competent, trustworthy, and reliable. Mark was all of these and more. Mark takes a personal interest in his work. He is on the site much of the time ensuring that his workers are doing their best. When things go wrong, he makes sure they get fixed. Like any relationship, there will be disagreements or misunderstandings, but Mark handled them in a professional and sincere manner. The bottom line here is that Mark wants his customers to be happy. I could relate several episodes of Mark’s commitment to customer satisfaction, but the one that meant the most to us was when we had a sewer line back up into the house (no fault of Mark’s). Out of panic, I called Mark and he came out immediately and with his foreman worked on clearing the line. He didn’t have to do that. He could have told us to call a plumber and gone back to what he was doing. I highly recommend Horizon Construction and Mark as your choice for your remodel project. You will have chosen wisely.

Constructed a walk-in shower, installed a second water line to accommodate shower heads, constructed a pocket-door to separate the bedroom from dressing room, installed new toilet, installed Led lights and other electrical work, installed new faucets in kitchen and 3 bathrooms and painted.

I chose Horizon Construction and Remodeling because of their excellent presentation and fabulous reputation on Angie’s List. This was a wise decision because HCR proved to be an ethical, caring and efficient company. My original remodeling job was to remove the bathtub in the master suite and install a walk-in shower. During the remodeling, I added additional electrical, plumbing changes and repairs to my home. The HCR crew held my hands throughout the whole process. The office staff called me frequently to check how I was doing and to make sure everything was going okay. The workers, in my home, were hardworking, fast and clean. There were a couple of hiccups with the job but I was very impressed with the prompt, same day, actions taken to correct any problems. In addition, all inspections were passed on first try. The price was reasonable for all of the work done and some things were not even charged. I couldn’t be happier and I wholeheartedly recommend Horizon Construction and Remodeling and I will call them again for my next remodeling project.

Our contractor was Mark Besnos. Mark is definitely who you want doing your remodeling. Mark is fastidious. His attention to detail was unbelievable. As with any job, there were things that needed tweaking. Mark made sure everything was absolutely perfect. We had an issue with the stainless steel tiles for the backsplash. After installing it was obvious that some of the tiles had a different finish (brushed finish instead of shiny finish). Mark had the tile company come to the house. He made sure the issue was fixed. His office staff, Enna, and Anna, were terrific. There was never a time when I called that I didn’t get a hold of Mark, Enna, or Anna. The best part, everyone who has come to see the kitchen, even all the subcontractors, complimented us on the kitchen. It should be on the cover of Better Homes & Gardens.

Horizon just completed a gut rehab remodel of our kitchen (which included removing a wall) and we were very pleased with the whole process. This was our first remodeling project and we didn’t quite know what to expect going into it. they did an absolutely wonderful job keeping everything on track and helping us each step of the way. They truly went above and beyond to ensure that our needs were met and that we were happy with the end result. The remodel was completed in a timely manner and each of the work crews that came in were courteous, professional and cleaned everything up at the end of each day. Another plus for us was that Horizon was all inclusive. We didn’t have to choose a separate place to buy/install the cabinets from and another for the counters, etc. They handle everything which makes it so much easier!

This is the second time we use Horizon and will probably use them again. They were very professional and finished the job ahead of time. Horizon was not the cheapest contractor but they were very close to the cheapest quote. They never skipped a day of work and made sure that they were done ahead of the promised date. This is the second time working with Horizon Construction. They remodeled my guest bathroom and the experience was so pleasant and professional that I hired them again to remodel our entertainment room. We had an old ugly and asymmetric fireplace that needed to be removed so that we can center the TV on the wall with some custom cabinets installed. As before, our experience with Horizon through the entire remodeling process was smooth. Even when we hit a snag, they worked with us to stay on schedule as much as possible. I do not regret going with Horizon again and would look to them first with my next home project as well.

Description of Work:

Removed tired, worn wood siding and replaced with stucco and manufactured stone. Installed a new electrical panelboard, energy efficient windows, and entry-way tile. Painted the entire exterior of the house.

Client Comments:

We had been considering an exterior renovation for some time. Our mid 1970’s wood siding was looking weathered and our old aluminum windows were difficult to open and close and not very energy efficient. We were also thinking about enclosing a 2nd story deck off the master bedroom. Rather than splitting these into separate jobs with 2 or 3 specialty contractors we wanted to find a company capable of doing it all. After reviewing Angie’s List we found Horizon Construction & Remodeling in Orange, CA. They had a lot of recent positive reviews covering a broad range of different projects. We spoke by phone with Enna Eskin, Horizon’s office mgr, who spent quite a bit of time getting an understanding of what we wanted done. Shortly thereafter, we met with company owner Mark Besnos and discussed options. Mark was very informative and offered a lot of design advice in addition to his contracting know-how. At a 2nd meeting we reviewed Horizons quote and agreed on the scope of work and price. This was presented in a very professional written format. We did decide to exclude the 2nd story deck enclosure. Horizon had a crew ready to work 3 business days later. They removed the old siding and unfortunately did not find any plywood sheathing underneath. This, with a couple other things became Change Order No. 1. We eventually had a few more change orders for changes we requested or Horizon suggested but Horizon was able to stay within their original schedule of 4 weeks even with a few lost days due to weather. The crew was always at work early, every day. They were pleasant to be around. They were eager to make sure everything was done correctly and to our expectations. They did a pretty good job of managing the debris and cleaned up everyday. You could tell these guys took pride in their work. They spent 10 minutes on their final day taking pictures of themselves in front of the house. Window installation day: They came, they installed and they were out in one day. No worries. We want to point out that we were so comfortable with Mark’s soft-sell presentation, our gut feel, and the competence we perceived from Horizon that we accepted their proposal without any competitive bids! Could we have gotten better pricing? Possibly. But the fact that the house now looks great and the whole process was virtually stress-free made it well worth it. And while the cost turned out to be a little more than we’d planned to spend we feel we received a good value from Horizon. We’d recommend Horizon and would use them for any future work we need done.

Horizon installed a shower where there was not one, installed a fan/light, & enclosed the shower area with a wall & door. Porcelain tile was laid for the shower.

They are very responsive to any issues/concerns that may come up. I found that when I described what I wanted in detail, Mark did his best & found the product & found a way to accomplish the requested task. He is especially good with design & detail.

The work was performed promptly. When the appliances that we ordered ourselves didn’t arrive on time, Horizon was able to reschedule us with no problems. All the the workers were very polite and diligent. For every tiny request we had, the company was very responsive and worked to make sure we were 100% satisfied. Based on their work, we now have them installing molding throughout the house and will hire them again in the future for our remodeling jobs.
